Fat Samurai is as powerful as the name suggests; made by the Kaetsu Shuzo Brewery in the beautiful Niigata region of Japan, this junmai ginjo holds a high polishing rate of 40% and is made with no added alcohol to stop fermentation, it also boasts a higher alcohol percentage than many sake due to being undiluted (genshu).
A certain floral nose boasts aromas of candied violets, eucalyptus and juniper berries. Distinguished rounder notes of cashew, almonds and melon fruit address the senses with a lingering dry finish of vegetal chilli and subtle dusty harissa spice. Fat Samurai is well defined, firm sake with a great long aftertaste and a superb impact of flavours. Fantastic at room temperature and a delight when chilled as an aperitif this makes for a treat when accompanied by seafood.
